We received an urgent phone call from a father at an attorney’s office who had an infant that needed care. The baby’s mother was recently incarcerated, leaving the dad to figure a number of issues including court dates and anxiety over suddenly becoming a single parent with a one month old as well as what to do about keeping a new job he recently started and that he could potentially lose.
Dad calling from an attorney’s office that gave him the number of the Nursery shows that our outreach efforts are indeed working even in places where we would not have thought we would reach. While he was initially hesitant about having to leave his child overnight and told us he needed to think about it before making the decision, it only took him 30 minutes to call back and set up an appointment because he was so impressed with what he’d heard about the services provided.
During the admission he expressed his deep gratitude. Knowing that we could help him since he had already missed a week of work in a new job that he really liked and was worried about losing, gave him piece of mind that he could concentrate on other tasks while not having to worry about what was happening with his baby as the sweet little boy was being taken care of by the dedicated staff at the Nursery.
