Bay Area Crisis Nursery supports children of families from all over the Bay Area, many of whom live in single parent households. Every parent of small children necessarily experiences challenges; being a single parent, however, comes with its own set of struggles—both financial and emotional.
Bay Area Crisis Nursery volunteer, Judy, knows first-hand how difficult single parenthood can be:
“Being a single Mother myself, I have a soft spot in my heart for children. [While] I am fortunate enough to have an amazing family, and received tons of support; now that my son is an adult, it is my turn to give back to those who may not be so lucky.”
BACN appreciates that single parents need even more support sometimes, to help their families thrive. In addition to offering practical assistance, BACN empowers parents and relative/kin-caregivers to prioritize their own health and well-being by providing respite childcare, emotional support, and connecting families with a social network of community-based resources.
“When I found BACN, I was thrilled; it fills my heart to finally have the time to give to my community and hopefully make a difference! I wanted a way to help children grow and thrive through difficult situations. I now volunteer and am active on [one of BACN’s] committees to raise awareness and sponsorship’s for events that support the cause.”
